Description

The piece depicts a winter cityscape of a little town, specifically two houses. Trees covered in snow surround two wooden houses. Attention has been paid to the details of the homes such as, the clothesline, light coming from inside, and the fences which surround their properties. There is what looks to be a small dog in the center of the piece, and there is a city which is faintly represented in the back of the two houses. The entire pieces feels as though you are looking at it through a snowy lens, with the color of the sky, the overall appearance of town and its landscape contributing to the very impressionistic style of the piece. Texture is created in the piece through the layering and dabbling of paint in certain places, more specifically this treatment can be seen in the lower right and middle lower sections of snow. Dimension is created through the use of contrasting colors in the snow, as well as in the use of light and dark shadows to produce the image of a very undescriptive sleepy and snowy town. Everything within the piece is very well balanced. The snow in the foreground as well as the balanced sides and the two houses create a symmetrical and balanced image where the emphasis is placed on the ambiance rather than a figure.
