"Payne was born in London but relocated to Australia in 1960 where she grew up on Sydney’s northern beaches. She studied archaeology and education at the University of Sydney and printmaking at Sydney College of the Arts.
The meditating form of a presumably Hindu deity has been entirely composed of individual block prints, all containing veining, or tree roots and branching. It lends both an anatomical, under-the-skin feel to the form as well as a symbolic tie between figure and nature."
