Love Records It All: Parshat Matot-Masei 2026 July 10
Entry/Object ID

Scope and Content
The final parsha of the Book of Numbers, Parshat Masei, includes a list of the 42 stops the Israelites made on their journeys in the wilderness. The rabbis over the years have theorized about why this list was recorded without any description of the significance of these places. Rabbi Inger settles on a teaching from Rashi about witnessing. A parent or loved one will notice and record all the insignificant moments in the beloved's life, simply because to witness is an expression of love. Communities write down stories and record journeys for this reason and also to preserve memory collectively.
