rdi-2017.12.15Scope and Content
For Shabbat Hannukah, Rabbi Ingber discusses how aspects of the story of Joseph can be seen in the lighting of the menorah. He talks about Joseph’s brothers seeing him but not recognizing him. He says that the story of Joseph is all about eyes and seeing. The brothers do not see him for what/who he really is. Rabbi Ingber brings up the Shamesh and how it is used as an instrument for the lighting of the Hanukkiah. And the menorah is used to see, but also is a symbol for others to see who the ones lighting it are. In the real world he uses this to challenge the congregation to really see people for who they really are—as people and not objects.Archive Details
