Sermon : Parshat Pinchas 2017 July 14Entry/Object ID
rdi-2017.07.14Scope and Content
The theme of the sermon is getting taking a moment to understand the arguments of others who have very different viewpoints than your own. Rabbi Ingber discusses this by discussing his trip to Israel to the Shalom Hartman Institute where one of the topics was the 1967 Six Day War. His Torah parallel comes in the form of the story of Pinchas/Phineas, the religious zealot who took it upon himself to punish two people who he saw as wrong and Moses's inaction to intervene. He uses philosopher Micha Goodman's argument that everyone should understand someone else's viewpoint for at least a moment to understand them.Archive Details
