Stepping Into the Cloud: Parshat Yitro 2026 February 6Entry/Object ID
rdi-2026.02.06Scope and Content
Drawing on his experience of finally having an infected tooth extracted, this sermon explores the difference between pain that must be confronted and removed and pain that, while frightening, may contain an invitation to growth. Through Parshat Yitro and Rabbi Nachman of Breslov’s teaching that “God hides inside the obstruction,” the piece suggests that some challenges—personally, politically, and spiritually—cannot be healed through avoidance. The Torah invites us not to be fearless or naïve, but to discern wisely which pain requires intervention and which calls us to step closer, listen deeply, and enter the “cloud of unknowing” where revelation and healing may begin.Archive Details
