The Man With No Place: Parshat Emor 2026 May 1Entry/Object ID
rdi-2026.05.01Scope and Content
A man curses, using the name of God, and is stoned to death. Son of an Israelite mother and Egyptian father. Rabbis explain that when he tried to pitch his tent with his mother's tribe of Dan, they rejected him. Appealed to Moses and he too said tribe is through patrilineal descent. He had nowhere to go and his anguished protest became a curse. Ishbitzer's interpretation of 5 stories in this section of a painful boundary and a legitimate protest. His protest crossed a line and he reacted badly. Can we hold the line without rejecting the person? Can we say "you're wrong" without saying "you're out?"Archive Details
