What Was I Made For? Parshat B'shalach/ Passover 2025 April 18Entry/Object ID
rdi-2025.04.18Scope and Content
The sermon explores the question “What were we made for?” through the story of the splitting of the Red Sea and the rabbinic interpretation that the sea was created with a condition: it would not fully become itself until the moment it opened for the Israelites. We, too, remain incomplete until we step into the purpose for which we were created. Drawing on Abby Carter’s emotional performance of “What Was I Made For?” and the Midrashic figure of Nachshon, who enters the sea before it splits, the sermon argues that fulfillment requires courage, action, and a willingness to move forward despite uncertainty.Archive Details
