Note
The FLEX-5000C is an ultra-high-performance software defined transceiver created by FlexRadio Systems. While the standard FLEX-5000A required the user to connect the radio to an external computer via FireWire, the FLEX-5000C was designed as a single box solution. The hallmark of the "C" version is its integrated, built-in Intel PC. FlexRadio placed an Intel Core2 Duo computer system directly inside a widened radio chassis, internally wiring it to the SDR hardware. This eliminated the need for an external computer, external sound cards, or complicated cable setups. Users simply had to plug in a monitor, the included wireless mouse and keyboard, and an antenna to get on the air using the pre-installed PowerSDR software.
Once the internal PC is running, the actual operation of the radio (PowerSDR software, antenna tuning, filters, etc.) is identical to the "A" model.
Features
– Integrated Internal PC: Houses an Intel Core2 Duo processor, 1GB RAM, and a 160GB hard drive running Windows XP natively inside the radio.
– No External PC/Cables Required: Uses an internal high-speed IEEE-1394 (FireWire) connection between the radio hardware and the internal motherboard.
– Built-in Audio: Unlike the "A" model, the "C" model features a built-in 7-watt audio amplifier and an integrated front-facing internal speaker.
– Peripheral Ready: Includes dual DVI ports to run multiple external monitors directly from the radio, as well as Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, and RS232 ports. Shipped standard with a wireless keyboard and mouse.
– Full Duplex Capabilities: Designed to transmit and receive simultaneously, allowing users to monitor their actual transmitted audio .
– Upgradability: The chassis supports optional internal add-ons, including a fully independent second receiver (RX2), an Automatic Antenna Tuner (ATU), and the VU5K module (adding 60 watts on 2m and 70cm).
– BITE (Built-In Test Equipment): Fully automatic internal test and calibration capabilities without the need for external lab calibration equipment.
