The CM-1 was more than a carrier monitor. Normal station shutdowns or brief, inadvertent carrier interruptions did not trigger its alarm circuit. A carrier break of more than 5 seconds, followed by a 1 kHz tone of 15 seconds duration, was required to activate the CM-1. The receiver had six crystal-controlled monitoring channels as well as a continuous 540–1600 kHz range.
