QST, Mar 1960, p. 148. QST, Feb 1963, p. 107. Kit or wired. The Eico 760 Citizen’s Band Transceiver is a distinctive example of early CB radio engineering. The 760 series was introduced in 1959, just months after the Citizens Band was authorized. Eico called it their "standard" series, as opposed to the "deluxe" 770 series introduced in 1961. Covering the 23 FCC-authorized CB channels between 26.965 and 27.255 MHz, the 760 series operates on AM and uses a single-conversion superheterodyne receiver with a 455 kHz intermediate frequency, providing sensitivity and selectivity typical for its time, and featured at automatic noise limiter. The 760 was available both factory-wired and as a kit, appealing to technically minded enthusiasts who valued the satisfaction of assembling and aligning their own equipment.Power output is approximately 4 watts. A variable pi-network output circuit matches most antennas. A built-in power supply and internal speaker make the Eico 760 completely self-contained, requiring no external components for normal operation. The front panel features a clean, uncluttered layout with controls for volume, squelch, receiver tuning, and transmit/receive switching—absent of frills like an S-meter but built for practical reliability. Like a number of very early sets, it had no squelch control. A notable feature of the design is its dual antenna connectors. One, on the rear panel, was for connection to a standard fixed base station antenna. The other, on the cabinet top, was for connection to a base-loaded whip for portable use. The unit was available three versions: model 760 for 120 VAC; model 761 for 6 VDC ; and model 762 for 12 VDC. Power input: 5 watts Crystal type: 3rd overtone, 0.005% Modulation: AM plate modulation limited to less than 100% Output impedance: not specified. "Variable pi-network adjusts to different antenna types." Microphone: ceramic Receiver type: superheterodyne with RF stage and noise limiter Receiver sensitivity: 1 µV for 10 db signal to noise ratio Receiver tuning: continuous over all 23 channels Audio output: "one watt with low distortion, two watts with tolerable distortion." Speaker: 3" x 5" Power supply: silicon rectifiers. 6 and 12 volts models include vibrators Power consumption: 117 VAC, 60 watts; 6 VDC, 9 amps; 12 VDC, 4 amps Tubes: (1) 12BY7, (1) 6BA6, (3) 6U8, (1) 6FM8, (1) 6AQ5 References Eico catalog 1961
