A combination electronic impedance matching device and broad band preamplifier, designed for use on six and 10 meters. Not referred to as the "R-9ER" until 1948.
Gain is achieved in two ways. Simply providing a good match between antenna to the receiver the device yields gain of up to several db, and additional gain of up to 30 db is provided by the preamp itself.
Band changing coils plug into an opening in the middle of the front panel.
Bandwidth at ten meters: 2 MHz (coil supplied)
Bandwidth at 6 meters: 5 MHz (coil optional)
Later, coil sets were available for 1.3–1.5 MHz, 27–32 MHz, 48–55 MHz, and individual coils for TV channels 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Requires and external power supply. Plate voltage is not critical as "almost any voltage will operate" the 6AK5.
Power: Approx 180 VDC @ 20 mA, 6.3 volts at 175 mA
Tube: (1) 6AK5
