General Notes

Note

The VX-1 is one of a series of small accessories Heath made to go along with the TX-1, RX-1, et al. It is built into the same box as the AM-2, the CA-1, and others. Although we now take VOX for granted, in its day the VX-1 was regarded as something of a luxury. The VX-1 was was designed with the DX-100 and TX-1 in mind. The octal plug on the VX-1 is for connection to the octal socket on the rear panel of both transmitters. Heath noted the VX-1 could also be used for voice control of a variety of other devices, and suggested intercoms, recorders and dictaphones as possibilities. Front panel controls include power on/off, receiver sensitivity (anti-trip), transmitter sensitivity, and delay. The VX-1 is finished in a silver and gray style to match the DX-100, AM-2, and others. The top and sides of the cabinet are perforated to provide ventilation. CONNECTIONS The rear panel terminal strip provides connections for audio from the receiver (terminals 1 and 2) and audio output to a speaker (terminals 3 and 4). Terminals 5 and 6 provide 120 VAC for operation of an antenna relay or other device. OCTAL PLUG The octal plug is designed to plug into the octal socket on the rear panel of the DX-100, providing remote control of the plate switch, and for operation of an antenna relay. The only function of the plug is to provide two sets of normally open contacts. These can be used to control other transmitters, or for some other purpose. Pins 3 and 4 have a current carrying capacity of 13 amps. Pins 1 and 8 will carry 5 amps. Note that pin 1 is at ground potential. All other pins have no connection. References: Review.
