"Compreamp" is the same name used by Metrodynamics for its similar device released in 1962. It is interesting to note that Waters added a trademark to its use of the word.
The Waters 359 Compreamp was a transistorized, battery-powered pre-amplifier/limiter. It increased transmitter output power up to four times while limiting over-modulation.
