The SX-62 is essentially the same as the SX-42, but with a re-imagined style and without a bandspread. Two RF and three IF stages. Specifications are almost identical.
The unit provides AM and CW reception over the entire range of 540 kHz to 109 MHz, with FM reception added above 27 MHz. The expansive slide rule dial permits accurate tuning, but without a bandspread the SX-62 is mostly unsuitable for amateur radio work. It is, therefore, most useful as an SWL receiver. As in the S-38D and E, the names of various countries are printed on the dial window, indicating the frequency at which their intentional broadcasting stations could be heard. These listings are long outdated and no longer useful.
Features include a BFO, noise limiter, headphone jack, a 500 kHz crystal calibrator, four position tone control, 60:1 tuning ratio, sensitivity control, standby, and a phono input.
An interesting feature of the SX-62 is that each band segment is individually lighted when selected.
Requires an external speaker of 500 or 5000 Ω impedance.
The SX-62A is different only in its speaker output impedance, which is 3.2 or 500 Ω.
The SX-62B uses only 14 tubes (with solid state rectifier and regulator).
