QST, Mar 1960, p. 148. Allied Radio catalog 1969 (copyright 1968), p. 212. Eico catalog 1969, p. 15. Eico catalog 1972, p. 7. (wired only) Eico catalog 1973, p. 6. Eico catalog 1974, p. 6. Kit or wired. The 706 is a simple transistor oscillator using an unspecified PNP transistor. Any general purpose PNP device would work as a replacement. The unit will operate a speaker, a light, or both simultaneously. The pitch control varies the tone from about 500 to about 2000 Hz. There is also a headphone jack. The catalog image appears to show the key terminals fitted with a piece of springy metal to act as a rudimentary key, if you didn’t have a real key (not included). Operates on two "C" batteries. The lamp is a #14 (2.5 volts), easily replaced with an LED. Current draw with tone: 40 mA; wIth lamp: 300 mA. By 1972 the 706 was available only as fully assembled. By 1973 the 706 was only of only two amateur products remaining in the Eico catalog. The other was the 717 electronic keyer. By 1978 the 706 was the last remaining amateur product. Tracking the unit beyond 1978 isn't possible because Eico stopped printing catalogs. Check for battery damage.
