The unit interrupts the transmitted signal every 9 minutes and 45 seconds for a period of 15 seconds during which the station call sign is automatically transmitted by MCW in the AFSK mode, or FSK in the SSB mode. During this time, the mark tone remains on the air so as not to lock up receiving printers.
