Ameco referred to the R-5 with the anachronistic term "all wave." The R-5 was completely solid-state and covered 0.54-54 MHz in five bands. It had an internal AC supply but could also operate from batteries. The R-5 had electrical band spread, an adjustable BFO, and a noise limiter.

An exceptionally fine receiver for the short wave listener and beginning-amateur operator. Fully transistorized—solid state. Covers 0.54 MHz through 54.0 MHz in five continuous bands. Includes standard broadcast band, all foreign broadcast bands, all amateur bands from 160 through 6 meters, all 27 MHz CB channels, all 2-way radio frequencies from 30 to 50 MHz including many police and fire departments. Has built-in power supply for AC operation and with optional accessory may also be used for portable operation on internal batteries or automobile battery. Controls include Beat Frequency Oscillator, Noise Limiter, Bandspread. Compare with tube-type units costing as much!
