Superheterodyne. Extra stage of RF amplification and a noise limiter. SX-17-F made for use by the FCC, and features the option for 6 VDC power, though it does require an external "vibrapack" for mobile use. Requires external speaker.
SX-17-F specifications are the same, except audio output uses a single 6V6.
