General Notes

Note

QST, Aug 1936, p. 63. (first reference) QST, Sep 1936, p. 6. Lafayette catalog number 69, p. 98. Superheterodyne type. The first of four radios in the Sky Buddy series, the others being the S-19 (1938) and the S-19R (1939), and the S-119 (1959). Two versions of the 5-T were produced--one included an image (on the celluloid dial) of a boy wearing headphones with his fingers on a telegraph key, the other did not. The white pointer is the main tuning indicator and rotates 180 degrees with one end of the pointer used for the top half of the scale, and the other for the bottom half. The red pointer is used with a logging scale (the outer most scale) and rotates with the white pointer, but at a higher rate, and thus covers 360 degrees. This effectively provides greater resolution, making the re-tuning of a previously found station easier. Note that this same tuning scheme is used in the S-14. Coverage: 540 kHz - 18 MHz Built-in speaker IF: 465 kHz BFO (labeled "beat oscillator") Power: 120 VAC Tubes: (1) 80, (1) 75, (1) 42, (1) 6A7, (1) 6F7 References Review. Radio News, Aug 1936, p. 90.
