Note
The MP-1 was the first of three versions of a power supply permitting mobile use of Heath amateur radio products.
The unit was designed specifically for use with the MT-1/MR-1 “Cheyenne” and “Comanche” transmitter and receiver. The MP-1 was replaced by the HP-10, which in turn was replaced by the HP-13(A)(B), the last in the series.
The MP-1 uses a pair of 2N442 transistors in a 400 Hz switching circuit and a voltage doubler to generate 600 VDC at 150 mA and 300 VDC at 100 mA capable of sustaining 120 watts of combined load. Input voltage is from 12 to 14 volts. Caution: Do not exceed 14 volts input. The power supply is equipped with an on-off toggle switch, but is also designed to be remotely switched on and off from the transmitter or receiver.
The front panel contains a Jones plug for power output, a 12 volt power input cable, an on/off toggle switch, a pilot lamp and a fuse.
Note that the front panel pilot light is wired in series with the output and servers as a current indicator. The lamp will light to approximately full brilliance at maximum current load. At idle, the lamp may not appear to be lit at all.
Gray or black chassis.
