The Clegg 99'er is a compact tube-based transceiver designed specifically for the 6-meter band.
Frequency Coverage:
– Receiver: Specifically restricted to the 50–52 MHz portion of the 6-meter band (tuning the first 2 megacycles, where activity is most concentrated) to allow for wide electrical bandspread and ease of tuning.
– Transmitter: Tunes the full 50–54 MHz range.
– Power Output: Generates approximately 5 Watts of RF output power into a 50-ohm load.
– Modulation: High-impedance crystal or dynamic microphone input (-55 dB or better), using plate/screen modulation via an audio power amplifier/modulator.
Tube Lineup
The transceiver uses a total of 10 vacuum tubes:
– 6DJ8 Cascode RF Amplifier
– 6U8 Tuned Local Oscillator & 1st Mixer
– 6AN8 Fixed Oscillator & 2nd Mixer
– 6BA6 456 kHz IF Amplifier
– 6AL5 Detector / AVC & Automatic Noise Limiter
– 6AQ5 AF Power Amplifier / Modulator
– 12AX7 1st & 2nd AF Speech Amplifiers
– 6EA8 Transmitter Crystal Oscillator / Multiplier
– 7558 Final RF Power Amplifier
– 6BW4 Full-Wave Power Rectifier
Power Requirements & Mobile Operation
While AC or DC operation is possible, the 99er's built-in power supply runs only from 115 VAC, 60 Hz.
To run the unit from DC requires the use of external inverter power supplies connected to the 11-pin power receptacle. This is detailed in the manual.
