While the 189A-1 was designed to be built directly inside the Collins 312B-2 / 312B-4 station control speaker consoles, the standalone 189A-2 variant came equipped with its own dedicated small escutcheon plate and enclosure, making it an external accessory. It was heavily marketed alongside the KWM-1 transceiver (which is visible sitting right behind it in the photos).
