Along with the 75S-1 receiver, the 32S-1 transmitter formed the first wave of Collins' "new look" S/Line. The relatively compact, matching equipment replaced the Collins St. James grey equipment that had stood atop the world of premium amateur gear for a decade. The 32S-1 was a 175 watt PEP SSB transmitter with mechanical-filter sideband generation. It included CW as an afterthought, but no AM mode was available. The 70K-2 PTO tuned over a 200 kHz range. Specific band segments were selected from among 14 crystal positions. The choice of crystals enabled the 32S-1 to operate on any frequency from 3.4-30 MHz (minus 5-6.5 MHz). With proper cabling, it transceived with the 75S-1.
