QST, Dec 1977, p. 155. (now with RIT) The Drake TR-4 transceiver had a solid-state PTO and used a pair of 9 MHz filters to permit upper and lower sideband selection without shifting oscillators. The TR-4 used three 6JB6s in the final amplifier. Power input was 300 watts PEP on SSB, and 260 watts on both CW and controlled-carrier AM. The transceiver provided full coverage of the 80-10 meter bands in seven 600 kHz ranges. Drake made its optional 34-NB noise blanker standard equipment on the later model TR-4 transceiver. A front -panel knob was added to control the blanker; $699.95, 1970. (1) The TR-4C used Drake's new C-Line dial and tuned the 80-1 0 meter bands in 600 kHz segments. Standard coverage on 10 was from 28.5 to 29.1 MHz. Accessory crystals were available for the remainder of the band. The final amplifier was three 6JB6s in parallel. It was rated at 300 watts PEP input on SSB, 260 watts CW, and 260 watts PEP controlled-carrier AM. A pair of filters in the 9 MHz IF were used for upper and lower sideband. On the TR-4 series’ 13th birthday, Drake made it more CW friendly. A 500 Hz CW filter was added. It and the existing sideband filter could be selected independent of mode. Later that same year an RIT control appeared on the front panel (at lower right corner).
