General Notes

Note

The RR8B-HP is an 8-port remote switch designed for coaxial lines in low to medium-power RF systems. Utilizing a star arrangement of 16 enclosed relays, the unit provides exceptional power handling and SWR performance compared to conventional switches. A key feature of the RR8B-HP is its versatility; it can function as a standard one-of-eight antenna switch or simultaneously select multiple output ports, making it ideal for complex antenna phasing and stacking systems. The unit is housed in an RF-shielded, weatherproof enclosure that allows the unit to "breathe" to eliminate condensation while protecting connectors from moisture. Provides excellent isolation (greater than 70dB at 30 MHz), and uses silver-PTFE UHF connectors and moisture-resistant, 20-ampere RF relays. Includes MOV surge protection on control lines. Power Rating: kW ICAS / 5 kW CCS (all modes, under 2:1 SWR) Control Voltage: 10-14 VDC @ 100 mA Port-to-Port Isolation: >70 dB (below 30 MHz); 55 dB (below 60 MHz) Insertion Loss: <0.1 dB (below 60 MHz) Impedance: 50 ohms Relay Operation: 12 VDC Caution: Never switch antennas while transmitting. "Hot switching" will create a sustained arc that damages relay contacts. Allow at least 15 ms after switching before transmitting. Note: DX Engineering recommends using DXE-CW9S shielded 9-conductor cable, which provides eight switch positions plus a common ground. Control line length depends on the wire gauge used to ensure reliable operation (total loop resistance must be under 30 ohms). 24 AWG:** Up to 1,000 feet 22 AWG:** Up to 1,500 feet 20 AWG:** Up to 2,000 feet
