Edward Weston: The Man and the Meters, by Mike Molnar
Abstract
Isaac Newton famously said, "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants". Edward Weston was the giant upon whose shoulders the electrical engineers and inventors of the 19th and 20th centuries would stand.
Weston's numerous inventions in electrical measurement enabled the creation of accurate, reliable instruments that made their groundbreaking research possible. While mostly recognized for the surviving Weston electrical measurement products that bear his name, these familiar meters represent only a fraction of his long legacy of innovation.
Ending his career with 334 U.S. patents, Weston was a pioneering inventor, engineer, and industry leader whose achievements spanned electroplating, dynamos, arc and incandescent lighting, and foundational electrical standards.
