Note
CQ, Oct 1964, p. 94.
The Electrocom Model TK-100 is a frequency shift tone keyer designed to provide stable radio-teletype (RTTY) performance. It functions as a highly stable, low-distortion tone oscillator that feeds into the audio section of a single sideband (SSB) transmitter. By shifting its audio tone frequency, it causes an equal shift in the transmitter's output frequency.
Operating Modes: The unit features a control switch with Test, Receive, and Send positions. It includes front-panel controls for Level (to set drive levels) and Bal (to ensure equal power for mark and space tones).
It is designed to work with high-suppression SSB equipment such as the Collins "S" line, KWM-2, and 32RS-1 transceiver without requiring transmitter modifications. It uses 2125 cps for the "mark" tone and either 1275 cps or 2975 cps for the "space" tone, depending on the specific equipment and filters used. It also facilitates CW operation via a key jack on the rear of the unit.
Model Variations
TK-100-C: A modified version specifically designed to mount directly into the accessory panel of the Collins 32RS-1 transceiver. It includes built-in attenuating and mixing resistors for direct interconnection.
