Popular Electronics, Mar 1959, p. 38. (CB version) Originally available in four models. A CB version was introduced early in 1959. The handset is sold as an option, as is the coiled cord, metal case, crystal, and the input and output transformers for the handset. The units are unusable without these "accessories." TC-144: $6.98. 144–148 MHz, variable frequency transceiver. TR-144: $9.98. As above but with independently tuned receiver and transmitter. TRX-50: $14.98. 50–54 MHz, crystal controlled transmitter and tunable receiver. TRX-50A: $19.98. As above but with transistorized audio booster stage for "extra loud reception." These units may have been available for some time after 1959, but advertising for them stopped immediately upon release of a version for the Citizens Band in March of that year. Initially this version had no stated model number, but was later called the RT-27A.
