General Notes

Note

QST, Feb 1969, p. 107. QST, Aug 1971, p. 116. (RV-550A after Galaxy's merger with Hy-Gain) The Galaxy RV-550 is a remote variable frequency oscillator (VFO) designed as a companion unit to the Galaxy GT-550 and GT-550A transceivers. Overview & Design – Companion Styling: Matches the aesthetics of the GT-550 transceiver, featuring the same 500 kHz tuning dial and large spinner knob. – Circuitry: Uses a four-transistor VFO circuit for frequency stability. – Automatic Band Tracking: Does not require a separate bandswitch control. It automatically follows whichever band the GT-550 transceiver is switched to. – Power & Hookup: Powered by regulated 12 V DC directly from the GT-550 via two interconnecting cables. The unit features a single four-position FUNCTION switch that controls split-frequency and transceive operations: – OFF: The RV-550 is inactive (indicated by its dial light turning off), leaving the transceiver to operate in its standard mode. – REC: The RV-550 controls receiver tuning, while the GT-550 dial sets the transmit frequency. – XMIT-REC: The RV-550 controls both receive and transmit tuning in transceive mode, bypassing the transceiver's internal VFO. – XMIT: The RV-550 sets the transmit frequency, while receiver tuning is controlled by the GT-550 dial.
