The Gonset G-50 was a complete 50 watt, 6 meter AM station. The transmitter was VFO controlled and both it and the receiver tuned 50-54 MHz. The final amplifier was a 6146. The G-50's 115 VAC supply was built-in.
The transmitter operates with a 48-watt power input utilizing a 6146 final power amplifier tube coupled to a pi-network output circuit. Amplitude modulation is provided by a push-pull pair of 6L6GC modulator tubes.
The multiplier stages are ganged and tracked directly with a calibrated VFO, though crystal control can also be used. A VFO spotting switch is included to allow precise zero-beating on target frequencies.
For harmonic suppression, a built-in low-pass filter attenuates spurious emissions and harmonics above 65 MHz by at least 80 dB.
The panel meter can be switched to measure final amplifier grid current, final amplifier plate current, or modulator plate current.
The receiver section utilizes a dual-conversion design to achieve high image rejection along with a 7 kHz selectivity bandwidth. It includes a dedicated RF stage to maintain a low signal-to-noise ratio and high sensitivity on the 6-meter band. Additional front-panel controls and features include:
