General Notes

Note

Ham Radio, Sep 1969 The HAL 25 is an eletronic keyer built using a "modular" design concept. Instead of purchasing a pre-configured unit, users could fully customize their own keyer by choosing only the specific options they want. Every custom-ordered unit was wired, tested, and guaranteed to meet the buyer's specifications. Not an efficient business model. The ad ran from September to November. In December, HAL changed advertising to the model 311B, (which first appeared in the September issue of QST as the 311), which appears to be the model 25 with most of the options included. This means that the 25 and 311 were briefly advertised concurrently, but in separate magazines. Additionally, the Hal model 27 was advertised concurrently, and appears visually identical to the 25 and 311. Outwardly, the 25, 27, and the 311 are indistinguishable. They appear to be HAL's first products. The model 25 appears to have been sold fully assembled, and not available in kit form. Specifications & Features The core system and its optional add-ons include the following configurations: – Base Performance: The standard 25T keyer features an 8 to 50 words per minute speed range, grid block keying (150V max), and requires 3 VDC to operate. – Alternative Base (Relay Output): The 25R keyer provides a relay output option but requires an additional 12 VDC. – Keying & Memory Options: Buyers could add dot memory and/or upgrade to squeeze keying. – Audio Monitoring: An optional monitor can be integrated, which features a 2.5" speaker with independent tone and volume controls (requires 3 VDC). – Components: The system utilizes high-quality Fairchild 8-pin epoxy ICs. – Power Supply: A dedicated power supply can be added to power the 25 Keyer and/or the audio monitor. The enclosure too, was optional. To house the components, a 364 Designer Cabinet was available,.
