Lafayette catalog number 78, p. 148.
The SX-23 "Skyrider 23" was introduced in the March 1939 issue of QST with a full ten page spread, complete with an introduction by Bill Halligan himself. Promoted as "driftless" receiver.
The 23's venetian-blind-style tuning dial highlights the receiver's Art Deco look. Its four general-coverage bands tuned from .54-34 MHz. Four band-spread ranges covered the 80 through 10 meter ham bands. The SX-23 had a crystal filter and used 11 tubes.
The "deco" design is unique among Hallicrafters products. Chassis and transformer covers are all painted dark gray and stamped with the Hallicrafters logo.
Features include BFO, AVC, ANL, RF gain, S-meter, standby mute, tone control, and a calibrated bandspread for the ham bands. Selectivity in five steps.
Requires and external speaker of 500 or 5000Ω. According to the advertising, the PM-23 speaker was included with purchase of the SX-23.
