Note
The Harris RF-2301 / RF-2301A is a synthesized HF tactical transceiver designed for medium- to long-range radio communications. It forms a comprehensive communication system typically configured alongside the RF-2360 Power Supply and can be used with optional peripherals like the RF-281 Automatic Antenna Coupler.
– Frequency Range: 1.6 to 30 MHz, tuned in 100 Hz steps, with an available fine-tuning control providing ±240 Hz adjustments in 15 Hz increments.
– Channels: 15 field-programmable channels supporting intermixed Simplex or Half-Duplex operation.
– Modes of Operation: Formats include Upper Sideband (USB), Lower Sideband (LSB), Amplitude Modulation Equivalent (AME), and Continuous Wave (CW). It is also capable of handling FSK and FAX when paired with external modems.
– Frequency Stability: Driven by a Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) ensuring stability to 1 part in 10^6.
– Environmental/Ruggedness: Operates across a –30º to +50º temperature range and features MIL-STD-108E splashproof construction. When deployed with its dedicated shock mount, it meets MIL-STD-810C standards for shock and vibration, making it suitable for tactical mobile, shipboard, and fixed-site installations.
Specifications
– Power Output:
SSB: 125 watts PEP / Average.
CW & FSK: 125 watts Average (when utilized with the RF-2360 Power Supply).
AME: 40 watts nominal carrier.
– Protective Circuitry: Built-in safeguards feature full thermal power cutback controls alongside comprehensive protection against severe antenna mismatches, including open or shorted antenna loads.
– Suppression Levels: Carrier suppression is at least 40 dB below PEP, and undesired sideband suppression is 50 dB at 1 kHz.
– Sensitivity:
SSB: 0.7 uV for a 10 dB ratio.
AM: 3.0 uV for a 10 dB uV ratio at 30% modulation.
– Selectivity: SSB bandwidth runs from 350 to 3150 Hz at 6 dB; AM provides a 6 kHz bandwidth at 6 dB.
– Automatic Gain Control (AGC): Features a fast-attack, slow-release envelope (with fast decay tailored specifically for FSK mode). The circuit yields less than a 10 dB change in audio output across a massive 100 dB RF input variation (from 3.0 uV to 0.3 V).
Squelch: Utilizes an adjustable-threshold syllabic rate type squelch (typically ranging from 0.5 uV to 10 uV.
Power Requirements:
The base transceiver requires a primary input of 13.8 VDC ±10%. When combined with the companion RF-2360 Power Supply unit (which adds 21 pounds to the setup) , the system can be run from a 26 VDC ±15% source, or standard 115/230 VDC (50/60 Hz) lines.
