General Notes

Note

The ICOM IC-R70 is a high-performance communications receiver designed for both amateur radio and general shortwave listeners. It operates as a quadruple conversion superheterodyne system (triple conversion for FM) that utilizes an up-conversion system with a high-side IF and a microcomputer control system. This design allows for seamless reception across all amateur bands and general coverage from 100KHz to 30MHz. Features – General Coverage Capability:100KHz to 30MHz, divided into thirty 1MHz segments. – Dual Digital VFO: Features a 10Hz step digital PLL synthesizer with two separate VFOs that can be used independently on any band. – Advanced Tuning Options: Offers three selectable tuning resolutions (10Hz, 100Hz, and 1KHz) via tuning rate select switches. – Pass-Band Tuning (PBT): Includes a built-in PBT system that allows continuous adjustment of the IF pass-band to eliminate nearby signal interference. – High-Level Components: Uses a wide-band push-pull RF amplifier with low-noise junction FETs and a high-level Double Balanced Mixer for wider dynamic range and better spurious response rejection. – Flexible Interference Rejection**: Equipped with a notch filter, a noise blanker with selectable timing (Normal/Wide), and an adjustable RIT (Receiver Incremental Tuning) of ±800Hz. – Operational Convenience: Includes a 6-digit 100Hz frequency readout, a multi-function S-meter, and a memory switch to retain frequencies when the main power is off. Specifications – Frequency Coverage: 100 kHz–30.0MHz; includes all Ham bands from 1.8 MHz to 30 MHz. – Modes: SSB (USB, LSB), CW, RTTY, AM, and FM (with optional unit). – Receiving System: Quadruple conversion superheterodyne (Triple for FM). – Intermediate Frequencies: 1st: 70.4515MHz; 2nd: 9.0115MHz; 3rd: 455KHz; 4th: 9.0115MHz. – Sensitivity (Preamp ON): SSB/CW/RTTY: < 0.15 uV (0.1–1.6 MHz: 1.0 uV) for 10dB S+N/N AM: < 0.5 uV (0.1–1.6 MHz: 3 uV) FM: < 0.3 uV for 12dB SINAD. – Selectivity SSB/CW/RTTY: 2.3KHz at –6dB; CW-N/RTTY-N: 500Hz at –6dB; AM: 6KHz at –6dB. – Frequency Stability: < 250Hz (1–60 mins after switch-on); < 50Hz after 1 hour. – Audio Output: More than 2 Watts into 8 ohms. – Antenna Impedance: 50 ohms unbalanced (Single wire usable for 0.1–1.6MHz). – Power Requirements: 117V or 235V AC ±10% (50–60Hz); 30VA. |
