General Notes

Note

The Icom IC-R8600 is a "DC tp daylight" receiver designed to cover a broad frequency range of 10 kHz to 3 GHz using advanced SDR technology. Unlike traditional receivers that require separate demodulator circuits for each mode, the IC-R8600 uses digital signal processing (FPGA and DSP) to restore incoming signals to analog audio, supporting both conventional analog and advanced digital communications. While the radio was first advertised through teasers and trade shows in late 2016, it became a commercially available product in the spring of 2017. Features – Wideband Coverage: Receives signals from 10 kHz to 3000 MHz. – Digital Mode Support: Decodes various digital formats, including D-STAR, P25 (Phase 1), NXDN, dPMR, and DCR (Digital Convenience Radio). – Real-Time Spectrum Scope: High-speed scope displayed on a 4.3-inch color touch panel for visual signal monitoring. – SD Card Functionality: Features an SD card slot for recording received audio, saving receiver settings, and storing decoded FSK logs. – Performance Enhancements: IP+ Function: Improves Third-order Intercept Point (IP3) performance to better handle strong input signals and minimize distortion. – Digital Twin PBT: Uses DSP to electronically narrow the IF passband width to reject interference. – Notch Filter: Includes Auto Notch for SSB/AM/FM and Manual Notch for SSB/CW/FSK/AM to suppress interfering beat tones. – Connectivity: 12 kHz IF Output: Specifically for DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) broadcasts. I/Q Baseband Output: Provides Phase/Quadrature data via USB for use with external SDR software or DRM demodulation. 10.7 MHz IF Output: For connecting external detector or demodulator circuits. Specifications – Frequency Range: 0.010000 to 3000.000000 MHz – Receive Modes: CW, AM, SSB, FM, WFM, FSK, D-STAR, P25, NXDN, dPMR, DCR – Circuit Type: Software Defined Radio (SDR) with FPGA and DSP processing – Display: 4.3-inch color TFT touch panel – Frequency Stability: ±0.5 ppm (–10°C to +60°C) – Antenna Impedance: 50 Ω (unbalanced) – Antenna Connectors: ANT1 (N-type, 10k–3GHz) ANT2 (SO-239, 10k–30MHz) ANT3 (RCA, 10k–30MHz) – I/O Ports USB (Type B) LAN (Ethernet) CI-V (Remote control) SD Card Slot – Operating Temp: –10°C to +60°C (+14°F to +140°F) Power Requirement: 13.8 V DC (±15%)
