General Notes

Note

The Kenwood TM-V7 is a compact FM dual-band mobile transceiver designed for versatile VHF and UHF operation. These units are engineered to provide sophisticated features in a small form factor, making them ideal for both mobile and fixed-station environments. When it was released, the TM-V7A was marketed as a high-end, compact dual-bander. It was particularly popular for its detachable front panel, which was only a little larger than a deck of cards, making it one of the most flexible mobile rigs for vehicle installation during that era. It also featured built-in support for 1200/9600 bps packet radio, reflecting the growing interest in digital modes in the late 90s. It was replaced by the TM-V71A, introduced 2007. Features – Dual Band Receive: Allows for the simultaneous reception of two frequencies. Supported configurations include VHF/UHF, VHF/VHF, and UHF/UHF. – Large Dot-Matrix LCD: Features an alpha-numeric display that is positive/negative reversible for optimal visibility. – Extensive Memory: Offers a maximum of 280 memory channels (140 for VHF and 140 for UHF). Up to 180 of these channels can be assigned custom names. – Programmable Memory (PM): Includes four PM channels that can store and quickly recall entire operating environments, including TX band, volume, and frequency settings. – Visual Scan: Graphically displays the activity levels of up to 147 frequency channels simultaneously. – Packet Operation Ready: Features a dedicated DATA connector supporting both 1200 bps and 9600 bps packet operations. – Detachable Front Panel: The compact front panel can be detached from the main body for flexible mounting in vehicles. – Integrated Transceiver Guide: An on-screen help system that guides users through basic functions and operations.
