The instrument uses a two-piece chassis arrangement connected by a 4-foot shielded cable: Coupler Unit: Housed in a compact metal enclosure measuring 2 x 5 x 2.5 inches. It features standard SO-239 RF coaxial connectors at each end, allowing it to remain permanently installed in the transmission line with negligible power loss. Indicator Unit: Built into a 2.5 x 6.5 x 3 inch cabinet designed for desk mounting. The front panel contains a 100-microampere meter, a rotary sensitivity potentiometer knob, and a two-position switch for selecting forward or reflected power readings. The P-2 employs the classic Monimatch reflectometer design, using a short section of internal coaxial transmission line flanked by two pickup loops. One pickup loop connects to diode CR-1 to measure forward RF voltage, while the second loop connects to diode CR-2 to measure reflected voltage. The unit can be wired for either 52-ohm or 72-ohm coaxial feedlines by selecting the appropriate terminating resistors during assembly (160-ohm resistors for 52-ohm lines, or 100-ohm resistors for 72-ohm lines). The entire instrument operates passively, requiring no batteries or external AC power source. Specifications – Frequency Coverage: 1.8 – 432 MHz. – Power Handling: 1000 watts – Sensitivity: Sensitivity varies with frequency, requiring 45 watts for full-scale meter deflection at 1.8 MHz, down to 0.5 watt at 432 MHz. – Meter Scales: The 100 uA meter movement features a top arc calibrated directly in SWR from 1:1 to 20:1. A lower relative power scale spans 0 to 10; when multiplied by 10, this scale directly indicates the percentage of reflected power in the transmission line. References Review: CQ, Mar 1963, p. 31.
