With the NC-400, National set out to provide a versatile communications receiver cable of top notch performance in both amateur and commercial applications. The double conversion receiver tuned 0.54-31 MHz in 7 bands. It had a crystal filter and mechanical filters were offered as an option. The NC-400 could be tuned manually or crystal-controlled on preset frequencies. It also had provisions to use an external frequency synthesizer. The band spread dial was calibrated for the 80-10 meter ham bands. The set used 18 tubes. References Brief description. Radio News, Apr 1959, p. 151. Review: CQ, Apr 1960, p. 60.
