The NC-77X covered 540 kHz–31 MHz in four bands. The amateur bands were marked on the main tuning dial and band-spread tuning was calibrated with a 0–100 logging scale. It is a classic "All American Five" design, but it does use a transformer in the power supply.
Features
– CW / AM Mode Switch: Includes a slide switch to engage a Beat Frequency Oscillator (BFO) for receiving Morse code / CW signals.
– Standby Switch: A `STBY-REC` switch to mute the receiver temporarily without powering down or requiring a warm-up cycle.
– Audio Output: Built-in PM speaker alongside a front-panel 1/4-inch headphone jack that automatically silences the internal speaker when plugged in.
Specifications
– Architecture: Single-conversion superheterodyne with a 455 kHz IF.
– Frequency Coverage: 540 kHz to 31 MHz across four switched bands (540–1600 kHz, 1.6–4.5 MHz, 4.0–12 MHz, and 10–31 MHz).
– Power Supply: 117 VAC (30 W) power supply. Notably, while using a modified "All American Five" (AA5) tube lineup, it incorporates a line isolation power transformer for added user safety.
Tube Complement:
– 12BE6 (Converter / Mixer)
– 12BA6 (IF Amplifier)
– 12AV6 (Detector / First Audio)
– 50C5 (Audio Output)
– 35W4 (Rectifier)
