The Poly-Comm PC6 and PC2 are single-band 50-MHz and 144 MHz transceivers manufactured by Polytronics Lab, Inc. of Clifton, New Jersey.
The units measure 5 by 11 by 10 inches, weighs 15 pounds, and features a built-in carrying handle that swings up into the top of the chassis. The front panel houses side-by-side tuning dials for the receiver and the transmitter VFO, a combined S-meter/tuning meter, a built-in speaker, a crystal socket, and controls for volume, squelch, noise limiter, receiver antenna trimmer, and transmitter tuning. Send-receive switching is controlled via a push-to-talk microphone.
The power supply uses silicon diode rectifiers and operates from either 115-volt AC or 12.6-volt DC sources. Voltage regulation for both the transmitter oscillator and receiver tunable oscillator is provided by separate pairs of series-connected NE86 neon bulbs. Power consumption on AC is 90 watts during reception and 140 watts during transmission; on 12.6-volt DC, current draw is 10 amperes on receive and 16 amperes on transmit.
Receiver Design
The receiver utilizes a double-conversion superheterodyne configuration:
Poly-Comm 6-CD
A slightly different version of the Poly-Comm 6 that at first glance, appears identical. Release date not certain but probably on the heals of the Poly-Comm 6 in 1962. The 6-CD is somehow complaint with the Office of Civil Defense order CD-1-100. See ad in CQ, July 1966, p. 60.
