General Notes

Note

Walter Ashe catalog, 1954, p. 5. QST, Aug 1954, inside front cover. Allied Radio catalog 1955 (copyright 1954), p. 191. Allied Radio catalog 1956 (copyright 1955), p. 199. Walter Ashe catalog 1957 (probably issued in 1956), p. 6. The RME CL-100 was a peak-limiting speech pre-amplifier that went between the microphone and transmitter. It improved talk power, increasing the average modulation percentage by clipping the peaks of the voice signal’s waveform. A low-pass filter attenuated the harmonics generated by this process. The CL-100 also had a high-pass filter that rolled off the bass frequencies that consumed power but contributed little to intelligibility. Maximum clipping was 24 dB, adjustable with a front-panel control in 6 dB steps. The three-tube unit had an internal power supply.
