Except for the audio output and rectifier, the RME-84's eight tubes were lock-in types. It operated from AC mains or batteries. Four bands covered 0.54-44 MHz and its vernier tuning dial was gear-driven.
The CM-1 carrier level meter was an accessory for the RME-84, which lacked an S-meter. It connected to terminals on the back of the receiver chassis.
