The 4-SP speech processor was designed for Drake T-4X transmitters. The RF-clipping was similar in concept to Sherwood’s 7-SP but lacked the 16-pole filter and optional receive filters.
The Sherwood 7-SP RF-clipping speech processor was made to work with the Drake TR-7 transceiver. It used eight-pole crystal filtering followed by hard limiting. On receive, the operator could select a 16-pole filter or an optional filter of a different bandwidth. Solid-state T/R switching was automatic.
