General Notes

Note

73. Sep 1975, p. 66 Manufactured by Sumner Electronics & Engineering Co., Inc. (SEEC) of Hendersonville, Tennessee, the HCV-2CS is a complete monitor that utilizes charge-coupled devices (CCD) and digital circuitry to perform both slow-scan to fast-scan and fast-scan to slow-scan television conversions. It was offered as a complete monitor rather than an assortment of black boxes and separate TV sets/video monitors. It was designed to fit in the same size cabinet as current HCV-2A and HCV-2B monitors, allowing owners of those models to retro-fit the scan-converting electronics or use a trade-in allowance. Key Technical Specifications & Features  – Slow-to-Fast Scan Conversion: Based on a 256-line format displayed on a 9-inch rectangular cathode ray tube (CRT) deflected at fast-scan rates (15,750 Hz horizontal, 60 Hz vertical field rate, 30 frames per second, with a composite video amplitude of 1.4V pp). – Memory Architecture: Utilizes a combination of CCD chips and digital shift registers providing a total memory capacity of roughly 80,000 bits. – Display Modes: Offers two basic reception and display modes: (1) displayed as received, and (2) freeze display, which freezes any picture on the screen. It also includes a special feature to convert a frozen fast-scan picture back to slow-scan for retransmission. – Tuning & Controls: Features a tuning meter for sync (1200 Hz) signal tuning, plus LED tuning indicators for adjusting monitor black and white compression levels (at 1500 Hz and 2300 Hz). The front panel houses 16 controls governing all operational modes, brightness, contrast, compression, video/voice switching, selectors, and the freeze switch. – Connections & Compatibility: Includes tape recorder input/output jacks, telephone line input/output jacks, an auxiliary fast-scan monitor output, and a built-in viewfinder for setting up a standard fast-scan camera. – Construction Measures approximately 14" W x 15½" D x 8½" H and is fan-cooled via an ultra-quiet fan on the rear panel. All circuitry consists of gold-flashed, glass-epoxy, plug-in printed circuit boards with socketed ICs, op-amps, and transistors.
