Note
The Timewave/AEA PK-12 is a 1200 baud, packet-only controller designed to provide a high-performance packet operating platform for VHF or UHF transceivers. It functions independently once configured, allowing users to turn off their computers while the PK-12 continues to handle connects, mail, and node operations.
Key Features
– Packet Modes: Supports AX.25 levels 1 & 2, with 1200 bps packet operation available in Command, Host, and KISS modes.
– MailDrop System: Includes a standard 32K RAM for the MailDrop (mailbox) system, which can be upgraded to 128K to increase mailbox size from 15K to 100K.
– GPS Functionality: Features remotely programmable and pollable GPS firmware. It is compatible with GPS, Loran, ARNAV, and Ultimeter II systems and includes a Stand Alone Tracking feature that automatically detects GPS receivers at power-up.
– Node Gateway: Functions as a gateway for node operation and supports DAMA (Demand Assigned Multiple Access) for master/slave node communication.
– Power Efficiency: Designed for low power consumption, allowing it to run on a 9-volt battery or in a dedicated "low power" mode for portable use.
– Connection Control: Includes specific commands like DFROM and CFROM to control which stations are permitted to connect.
– User Interface: Provides an "EXPERT" command mode that hides advanced commands from beginners until they are ready to use them.
