Although WRL ad copy called the Globe King 500A "New and Improved", it differed little from the 500 (introduced in 1954). One change was use of a pair of 811-A modulator tubes in place of the 5514s in the earlier model. Both versions featured band switching coverage of 160-10 meters and had a power input of 500 watts CW & AM with a 4-250A final. The Globe Kings could be used on SSB with an external exciter; $675.00.
The Globe King 500B added a VFO and audio compression to the features of earlier models. WRL made the transmitter sections available separately. One could purchase just the RF deck, shown here, for example; $299.50 (RF deck only) $675.00 (complete transmitter).
The 500C was the final monarch in the Globe King dynasty. The transmitter ran 540 watts input on AM and CW. It was rated at 720 watts PEP when used with an external SSB exciter. The final amplifier tube was a 4-400A; $795.00.
