General Notes

Note

The Yaesu FTM-310D (and its sibling, the FTM-310DRASP) is a dual-band (2m/70cm) VHF/UHF mobile amateur radio transceiver that supports both traditional analog FM and Yaesu’s System Fusion C4FM digital mode. The standout design choice for the FTM-310D is its focus on a true dual-receiver architecture packaged behind a high-visibility, wide monochrome display, skipping the color touch screens of some higher-tier models in favor of rugged simplicity and robust RF performance. Features – RF Power Output: Generates 55 watts on VHF (144 MHz) and 50 watts on UHF (430 MHz), with selectable medium (25W) and low (5W) power settings. – True Dual Receive: Equipped with two completely independent receiver front-ends. This allows for simultaneous, uncompromised monitoring of two frequencies across any configuration: V+V, U+U, V+U, or U+V. Crucially, it supports simultaneous C4FM/C4FM digital receive on both bands. – Wideband Receiver: Continuous receive coverage from 108 MHz to 550 MHz, which includes native AM reception for the aviation band as well as marine and public safety monitoring. – Full Dot-Matrix Display: Rather than using a smaller color screen or cutting off screen space for a massive VFO knob, the FTM-310D features a wide, horizontal monochrome display stretching across the control head. It is highly readable in direct sunlight and features a selectable amber or white backlight. – AESS (Acoustic Enhanced Speaker System): Combines a 3W speaker built directly into the front control head with a 3W speaker inside the main chassis for a total of 6W of audio output. The dual-source phase modification delivers incredibly clear, loud audio engineered to cut through vehicle cabin noise at highway speeds. – Super-DX: Instantly boosts RF gain to pull in marginal, weak signals. – ASP (Pre-installed on the "ASP" model, or available via the optional SPU-1 board): Applies digital signal processing to filter out high-frequency hiss, hum, and background noise, which is particularly effective at making scratchy, weak analog FM signals readable. ### Data & Networking Capabilities GPS & APRS: Includes an integrated 66-channel, high-sensitivity GPS receiver. It fully supports standard APRS data communication at both 1200 bps and 9600 bps right out of the box. WiRES-X Support: Functions seamlessly as a Portable Digital Node (PDN) or can link into the global WiRES-X network when paired with an HRI-200 internet linking kit. Smart Memory Management: PMG (Primary Memory Group): Real-time bar graph monitoring of up to 5 favorite frequencies with automatic or manual callback switching. MAG (Memory Auto Grouping): Automatically segments your programmed channels by band (VHF, UHF, Airband, etc.) for quick scrolling. CFL (Customized Function List): A quick-access menu that lets you map your 9 most-used settings out of the radio's 120+ internal menus. ### Expansion & Fitment The control head features a dedicated microphone jack on the faceplate (in addition to the main body jack) and supports the optional SJMK-500 swing-head kit for flexible dashboard mounting angles. Hands-free operation is supported via the optional BU-5 Bluetooth unit.
