General Notes

Note

The Yaesu FTDX10 is a compact, 100-watt HF/50MHz transceiver. It proved extremely popular because it brought the absolute top-tier receiver performance of Yaesu’s flagship FTDX101 down into a much smaller, budget-friendly package. It sits incredibly high on the Sherwood Engineering receiver performance tables, offering performance that rivals or beats radios costing twice as much. The Hybrid SDR Architecture The secret to the FTDX10’s performance is its Hybrid SDR configuration. Yaesu engineers split the receiver into two simultaneous paths: 1. The Narrow-Band SDR Path: The incoming signal is immediately down-converted to a 9 MHz intermediate frequency (IF). It then passes through a mechanical bank of sharp crystal roofing filters (500 Hz, 3 kHz, and 15 kHz). By filtering out strong adjacent interference early, the analog-to-digital converters aren't overloaded, resulting in an phenomenal Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic Range (RMDR) of 116 dB+. 2. The Direct Sampling SDR Path: Parallel to the narrow-band path, a wideband direct-sampling digitizer feeds the high-speed spectrum scope. This ensures that even when you are digging a weak signal out of the mud with razor-sharp filtering, your panadapter display remains incredibly fast, smooth, and detailed. Interface & Operating Controls Despite its smaller footprint (about the size of a standard piece of printer paper), it retains excellent ergonomics: – 5-Inch Color Touchscreen: The center of the radio features a high-resolution display showcasing Yaesu's 3DSS (3-Dimensional Spectrum Stream) waterfall. You can touch the screen to instantly jump to a signal or bring up a temporary numeric keypad for frequency entry. – MPVD (Multi-Purpose VFO Outer Dial): Just like its big brother, the main tuning knob is ringed by a secondary multi-function outer dial. You can assign this ring to control the Clarifier (RIT/XIT), step through memory channels, or adjust custom menu settings without needing to take your eyes off the waterfall. – Proven Interference Rejection: It features a 32-bit floating-point IF DSP that powers remarkably effective tools like the Digital Noise Reduction (DNR), an incredibly sharp Auto-Notch filter, and adjustable contour filtering to make fatigued ears happy during long operating sessions.
