Description

Paul David, RCAF, bomb aimer, 97 Squadron. Graves at Utrecht.

Context

A Catholic blessing seems to be in progress; Paul David was Roman Catholic and the priest is facing his grave, where fresh flowers have been laid. These are the crew graves before the official CWGC (then the IWGC) tombstone was erected. The photograph would have been taken sometime in the 5-6 year period after the war ended in May 1945, but it appears to be of the original crosses and therefore is most probably from the immediate afterwar period. The photograph has been made into a postcard, which has not been used or written upon. Donated by Claude David.
